This monumental pale turquoise vase by Tiffany Studios, New York depicts the amber flowers and silver-lustre leaves of the arrowhead plant, a species native to Europe and widely associated with French Art Nouveau. The flowers are rendered in the millefiori glass technique, in which a design composition is created by bundling colored glass canes and drawing them out into a long rod. The rod is then cut at right angles—likely by striking it with specialized tools—to produce small inlay tiles.
