Also known as the "anchor” chain, this chain style has roots in maritime culture and nautical use. The oval links with a bar down the middle, are similar to a ship's anchor chain. Jeweler's began incorporating this design in the early 20th-century particularly in Italian craftsmanship.
I love the flat mariner styles as they make phenomenal layering pieces! They can also be used as a sturdy chain to hold pendants and/charms.
